Part1 Under centuries of British rule who were more interested in taking away the wealth and resources of country, the education and social development suffered. Exploitation, poverty and social evils hampered growth of education compared to may other part of world. When British establish their rule in India, the considered the people of India uncivilized. They were of the view that it is their duty to civilize them. Their idea of education revolved around this theme. EDUCATION IN PRE-BRITISH INDIA Before the advent of the British in India, education was imparted in India in Pathsalas, madrasas and gurukuls, Higher education was confined to rich and elite classes of both Hindus and Muslims.
